In the firm’s Construction practice, Ryan represents owners, design professionals, general contractors, and subcontractors in a variety of public and private disputes, negotiations, and investigations. Ryan practices in state and federal courts in Massachusetts, as well as alternative dispute forums including AAA and JAMS.
Ryan has also drafted and negotiated general contractor agreements, subcontractor agreements, and other project-related documents and has extensive experience with AIA and ConsensusDocs contracts. Ryan has a specific and focused knowledge base in handling multi-party, complex construction disputes which enables him to deliver clients significant value in navigating intricate legal challenges. Ryan has consistently been recognized as a leader in construction law by his peers, named as a Best Lawyers in America One to Watch, a Super Lawyers Rising Star, and Boston Magazine Top Lawyer.
Beyond his construction practice, Ryan is a versatile commercial litigator with deep experience serving clients in the technology, real estate, and energy industries. He handles a broad spectrum of complex business disputes, including contract, negligence, fiduciary duty, insurance coverage, and unfair business practices under Chapter 93A. Ryan’s approach is rooted in a commitment to his clients’ specific business objectives; he listens carefully to understand their needs and provides realistic, strategic options to achieve them. Whether advocating in the courtroom or negotiating a settlement, Ryan remains focused on delivering practical resolutions that protect his clients’ interests and their bottom line.
Ryan also contributes to the firm’s pro bono commitment. Recently, Ryan has co-authored an amicus brief before the Supreme Judicial Court on behalf of a consortium of medical schools and represented victims of attorney fraud before the Massachusetts Client Security Board.
Prior to joining Conn Kavanaugh, Ryan was a litigation associate at a mid-sized Boston law firm that specializes in defending design professionals in professional liability matters. During law school, Ryan interned for the Honorable Juan R. Torruella of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
Outside of the law, Ryan is an active member of the Boston community, serving as an Emerging Leader of the Boston Public Library Fund, the Friends of the Public Garden, and the Associates of the Boston Public Library.
