William Grady and Priscila Martins Co-Author Article on Preparing Legal Practice Data for AI

Conn Kavanaugh’s Director of Technology and Business Operations, William Grady, and Director of Information Governance and Special Projects, Priscila Martins, recently co-authored an article with Colin Cahill, Practice Director of Microsoft Solutions at InOutSource, for the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA).

The article, “Preparing Legal Practice Data for the Age of AI,” examines why responsible and effective AI adoption in law firms begins with strong information governance. The authors explain that AI readiness is not simply a technology-purchasing decision, but an information governance priority that requires firms to ensure their data is accurate, secure, relevant, and properly managed.

Grady, Martins, and Cahill explain how data cleanup, consistent taxonomies and metadata, security controls, and tools such as Microsoft Purview can support generative, retrieval-augmented, and agentic AI while reducing risks related to accuracy, confidentiality, compliance, ethics, and reputation.

The authors emphasize that technology platforms can support these efforts, but they do not replace a comprehensive and ongoing information governance program.
