‘Big Swings’ and Record Donations: Cheering on the BC Law Softball Team

BREAKING ROSTER UPDATE: Conn Kavanaugh Managing Partner Erin Higgins Drafted by Boston College Law Softball

In a blockbuster off-season roster move, Conn Kavanaugh is proud to announce that Managing Partner Erin Higgins has officially been “drafted” as an honorary player by the Boston College Law School Softball team, the Legal Eagles!

The transaction was made official recently at the Conn Kavanaugh offices, complete with a jersey presentation. Acting as the team’s general manager for the day was Kurtis Grey, a 2L at BC Law, U.S. Army servicemember, and future member of the JAG Corps. On behalf of the team (which Conn Kavanaugh is thrilled to sponsor), Kurtis stopped by headquarters to present Erin with her very own custom Boston College Law Softball jersey.

Now that the ink is dry and the jersey has been delivered, our scouting department has been keeping a close eye on the team’s recent performance.

Scouting Report: The 43rd Annual North Grounds Softball League Invitational

Last month, the Boston College Law Legal Eagles took their talents south to Charlottesville for a massive, 102-team tournament. Despite rain delays and schedule shifts, the team’s offense was electric right out of the dugout. They jumped to a quick 10-0 lead en route to a 13-5 victory over George Mason, and kept the bats hot with a 23-3 win over Fordham under the Saturday night lights.

Securing the #24 seed in the single-elimination bracket, they faced off against the #9-ranked UNC Law team at 8:00 AM on Sunday. Braving the freezing temperatures, the Boston College Legal Eagles pulled off the morning upset with a massive 22-10 win to advance to the Top 16.

The Postgame Presser

Every great sports run eventually runs into a powerhouse, and for BC Law, that was Georgetown. But as Kurtis Grey noted in his post-game press conference (via email), the team’s morale never wavered.

“We were simply outmatched,” Grey explained. “While we spent most of that game turning to watch each of their home runs that went further than the last, we laughed it off and had a great time doing it.”

While finishing in the Top 16 out of over 80 teams in their division is a solid showing for the Legal Eagles, the weekend’s biggest victory actually belonged to the host school. The 43rd annual North Grounds Softball League Invitational, organized by UVA Law students, raised a record-breaking $55,000 for charity.

For the Boston College Legal Eagles, their off-field intangibles were just as impressive as their on-field hustle. According to Grey, their weekend highlight reel featured an all-out assault on the Cookout menu, Airbnb ping-pong showdowns, morning bagel debriefs, and holding their own in dance battles against rival schools.

Conn Kavanaugh is incredibly proud to sponsor a team that leaves it all on the field, especially for such a massive charity event. We wish the Boston College Legal Eagles the best of luck for the rest of their season.

And if they ever find themselves needing a pinch-hitter, our Managing Partner is officially ready to suit up and answer the call.
