J. P. Christian Milde

Christian focuses on white collar defense, government and internal investigations, appellate advocacy, and legal ethics and malpractice matters.

Christian is a member of the firm’s litigation department and maintains a broad practice working on both civil and criminal cases. He focuses on white collar defense, government and internal investigations, appellate advocacy, and legal ethics and malpractice matters. He also advises and represents clients in complex civil litigation involving issues ranging from employment law to commercial disputes.

In his pro bono advocacy, Christian concentrates on defending constitutional liberties and promoting criminal justice reform. In 2021, Christian and Carol Starkey filed a cert petition with the U.S. Supreme Court seeking review of Commonwealth v. Delgado-Rivera, 487 Mass. 551 (2021), a decision that allows prosecutors to use illegally seized text messages against anyone except the phone’s owner. The previous year, Christian authored an amicus brief to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court in Ernest E. v. Commonwealth, 486 Mass. 183 (2020), arguing on behalf of the Children’s Law Center of Massachusetts that subjecting children to sex offender registration is not only ineffective, but harmful.

Christian is also an adjunct faculty member at Boston College Law School, where he works with the Law Review’s student writers to refine their skills and develop their work for publication.

While a student at BC Law, Christian worked on the legal team that exonerated Omar Martinez after nearly twenty years in prison following a wrongful conviction for murder. Christian’s published work related to wrongful convictions has been cited by the Iowa Supreme Court (majority) and the Wisconsin Supreme Court (dissent). During his studies, he also served as an Executive Notes Editors of the Boston College Law Review, and he has interned in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, and two Massachusetts trial courts.

Out of the office, Christian is an avid cyclist and sea kayaker, a hobbyist boat builder, and an occasional professional tenor.
